[会议背景介绍]

Welcome to the 29th Inter-American Congress of Chemical Engineering and the 68th Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference, to be held jointly in Toronto, Ontario, October 28-31, 2018. This international event will be co-organized by a team of colleagues from the University of Toronto, Ryerson University and the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering. Additionally, over 50 professionals from academia, industry, and government within Canada and abroad will support the organizing committee. We anticipate 1,500 delegates from over 30 countries will attend the conference.

The conference theme is “Engineering for a Healthy and Sustainable Planet". Central to the conference is the technical program, which consists of seven international symposia on topical subjects and 12 tracks on traditional areas of chemical engineering. Two of the international symposia will honor internationally renowned Canadian pioneers – Donald Mackay in environmental engineering and Michael Sefton in biomedical engineering. The conference will also feature four distinguished plenary speakers, including the winners of the R.S. Jane Memorial Award and the J.S. Oldshue Award. For the future generation of chemical engineers, we will have a rich student program that includes undergraduate research presentations, industry tours, graduate student poster presentations, and a 3-minute thesis (3MT) competition. Consistent with the conference theme, the conference will have an industry program focusing on climate change, clean energy and sustainability.

Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the fourth most populous city in North America and the provincial capital of Ontario. As a global city, Toronto is an international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture. It is one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world, and is consistently ranked one of the world's most liveable cities. Located in Southern Ontario on the north-western shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto is situated on a broad sloping plateau intersected by an extensive network of rivers, deep ravines, and urban forest. Nearby, there are the awesome Niagara Falls and the magnificent Thousand Islands. The Sheraton Centre, where the conference will be held, is situated at the downtown core, within walking distance are the famous CN Tower and the University of Toronto and Ryerson University campuses. With the delightful temperature and golden color of maple trees, fall is the best season to visit Toronto. We look forward to welcoming you in Toronto in October 2018.
